What were your 10 favorite movies of 2017? The best picture candidates and other nominees get trotted out Sunday, March 4, at the Academy Awards.

Newsweek says: “What makes (director Sean) Baker’s film such a transcendant experience is that he took a subject full of despair, as well as lives of desperation, and spun them into a powerful film that pulses with life, joy and natural beauty.”

9. Wind River

Nominations (0):

“Writer-director Taylor Sheridan stages this stirring murder-mystery against the backdrop of a desolate Indian reservation in central-western Wyoming, and he captures the snow-covered loneliness of the environment with a poetic punch,” writes the Detroit News.

10. ???

OK, I intentionally left this blank because it wasn’t an exceptional year for Hollywood — and I wanted to hear from you on what film I overlooked that I should definitely run out and see.

Honorable mentions

“The Snowman,” which came out Dec. 16, 2016, just missed the cut. Here are some other notable films from the past year.

  • Dunkirk
  • Darkest Hour
  • Call Me By Your Name
  • Molly’s Game
  • Phantom Thread
  • I, Tonya
  • Kong: Skull Island
  • Thor: Ragnarok

How about you? Which of your fave flicks did the Oscars diss, or which ones are you rooting for?
